Cleaning & Turnaround Checklist for Hosts

By Belo Rentals · Updated June 2026

Cleanliness is one of the most common things renters review — and one of the easiest to control. A consistent turnaround routine keeps your reviews high and your car ready for the next booking. Here's a practical checklist.

Interior reset

Remove trash, vacuum floors and seats, wipe down the dash, console, door panels, and touch points, and clean the interior glass. Check for odors — a neutral, fresh cabin matters as much as a spotless one. Cleanliness at pickup is what earns the five-star cleanliness rating.

Exterior and quick detail

A quick wash and a wipe of the door jambs make a strong first impression. Dress the tires when you have time. You don't need a full detail between every trip, but the car should always look cared-for.

Restock and reset

Reset fuel or charge to your listing's standard, confirm tire pressure, and restock anything you provide.

  • Trash removed, floors vacuumed
  • Touch points wiped and sanitized
  • Glass cleaned inside and out
  • Fuel/charge and tire pressure reset
  • Documents and inspection current

Build speed into the routine

Keep a small kit — microfiber towels, glass cleaner, a portable vacuum, and trash bags — in a bin so turnaround is fast. Faster turnarounds mean you can accept back-to-back bookings without sacrificing quality.

Frequently asked questions

How clean does the car need to be?

Clean enough that a renter would happily rate it five stars — fresh cabin, clear glass, no trash or odors. It sets expectations and protects your reviews.

Can I charge for excessive cleaning?

Cleaning charges are approved host charges you keep when a return requires more than normal turnaround. Document the condition with photos.

Do I need a professional detail every time?

No. A quick, consistent reset between trips is enough; save full details for periodic deep cleans.
